Ten Years After with Ike & Tina Turner and the Flock at the Fillmore West, on the front half of BG-183.
It is a bill that only makes sense in 1969. Ten Years After were a British blues-rock band whose Woodstock appearance three weeks later — Alvin Lee playing "I'm Going Home" at impossible speed — would make them briefly famous in America. The Ike & Tina Turner Revue beneath them were a working R&B institution a decade old, with a stage show of a precision no rock band on the circuit could match. And the Flock were a Chicago group with a violinist, signed to Columbia in the brief window when every label wanted a band with strings.
Graham booked across those lines constantly and it is the single most characteristic thing about his programming.
