Family Dog on the Great Highway
San Francisco, CA
History
Chet Helms's Family Dog operation relocated to a hall at 660 Great Highway, on the ocean side of San Francisco, after losing the Avalon Ballroom's lease in late 1968. It ran psychedelic dance-concerts through 1969-1970 under the Family Dog banner, the last chapter of the organization that had helped start the ballroom scene at Longshoreman's Hall and the Avalon.
Its Place in the Scene
Late Family Dog venue (successor to the Avalon).
