That is the entire surviving record of the night, and this page will not pretend otherwise. No second act, no poster, no press, no recording — a band name and a date in a venue list compiled decades later by Ross Hannan and Corry Arnold from whatever could be reconstructed.

It is worth having at least one page in this chronicle that says so plainly. The San Francisco scene is remembered through its posters, and the posters were made for the ballrooms: a thousand-capacity room with a commissioned sheet leaves an artifact that sells at auction sixty years later, while a hundred-capacity club on Fillmore Street leaves a line of text. The Matrix ran for seven years, gave Jefferson Airplane their name and their first stage, and is documented at a fraction of the resolution of a single Avalon weekend.

Most nights in most cities were like this one. The chronicle can record that they happened, name who played, and stop — which is a more honest page than one that invents atmosphere to fill the space.
