Friday, September 8, 1967 was night two of the Byrds at the Fillmore Auditorium, with the Loading Zone and the LDM Spiritual Band, on Jim Blashfield's BG-82 — the sheet announcing what it called the "Opening of the Fall Weekend Series."

Blashfield made the poster suit the announcement. BG-82 is decidedly autumnal, in both its colour scheme and the leaves and pine cones decorating the central image, and at its middle sits an unaccredited photograph of the band. That last detail is characteristic of the period's poster economics: the photographer went uncredited on a sheet that now sells for hundreds of dollars in near-mint condition. It was printed on white index stock at roughly 14⅛ by 21 inches, and a double postcard was run carrying both BG-82 and BG-83.

The band in the photograph had about six weeks left in that configuration. David Crosby's behaviour through 1967 — the Monterey Pop set where he lectured the audience about the Kennedy assassination between songs, the material he pushed that the others would not record — came to a head that October, when Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman drove to his house and told him he was out. So the Byrds who played these three Fillmore nights are a lineup with an expiry date already set, working through songs — "Eight Miles High," "So You Want to Be a Rock 'n' Roll Star," the Dylan covers — that had outlasted the arrangement which produced them.

The Loading Zone, second-billed, were the Oakland band with Linda Tillery's voice and a horn section, one of the East Bay groups Graham used steadily and that history has largely mislaid.

Verification Notes

COAU Fillmore Auditorium, 08 September 1967: 'Byrds, Loading Zone, Ldm Spiritual Band Lights: Holy See'. Night 2 of the Sep 7-9 BG-82 run. DEEPENED 2026-09-03 (enrichment pass 1). Bill per COAU Fillmore Auditorium listings (Hannan/Arnold), 8 September 1967: 'Byrds, Loading Zone, Ldm Spiritual Band Lights: Holy See'. Autumnal theme, leaves and pine cones, the unaccredited Byrds photograph, stock, dimensions and the BG-82/83 double postcard from classicposters.com product page (browser session 2026-09-03). NOT ASSERTED: the classicposters performer list also names Spirit; COAU gives only Byrds/Loading Zone/LDM for 7-9 September, so that appears to be the poster's wider roster rather than a per-night bill.
