Saturday, September 6, 1969: night three of Santana, Sea Train and Yusef Lateef at the Fillmore West on BG-190.

Yusef Lateef's presence third on this bill is the detail worth keeping. He had been recording since the 1950s, played tenor saxophone, flute and oboe alongside the Middle Eastern reeds he had studied seriously, and by 1969 was as far from a rock support act as a musician could be. Graham put him under a Latin-rock band anyway, in front of an audience that had come for Santana, exactly as he had put Gary Burton under Cream two years earlier.
