At the Matrix the same Sunday, Quicksilver Messenger Service played with Congress of Wonders, lights by Gum.

Quicksilver in September 1967 were the great unrecorded band of the San Francisco scene — John Cipollina, Gary Duncan, David Freiberg and Greg Elmore had been playing since 1965 and would not release an album until 1968, by which point their live reputation was enormous and largely undocumented. Congress of Wonders were a Berkeley comedy troupe, which is its own piece of evidence about what these bills were: a small club could put a satirical revue under one of the best guitar bands in California and nobody thought it needed explaining.
