Friday, September 1, 1967 carried the run into September: night four of Cream, the Electric Flag and Gary Burton at the Fillmore Auditorium, on BG-80.

By this point Cream had been playing San Francisco for the better part of two weeks across two posters — Bonnie MacLean's BG-79 from the 22nd, with Paul Butterfield's band billed above them, and Blashfield's BG-80 from the 29th with Cream finally on top. Very few acts mattered enough for Graham to book them two consecutive weeks, and the two sheets were printed as a pair: a double postcard exists carrying both BG-79 and BG-80 across about four by fourteen inches, bulk rate permit on the back, some copies addressed and mailed to the Fillmore's subscriber list.

What the residency did for the band is the whole point of it. Their actual American debut had been five months earlier on Murray the K's package shows in New York, buried down a bill and playing as little as one song five times a day. The Fillmore gave them consecutive nights, a room built for length, and an audience that had come specifically to hear three musicians stretch a blues past where a record could go.
