Sunday, August 27, 1967 closed the BG-79 run at the Fillmore Auditorium: the Butterfield Blues Band, Cream and the Southside Sound System, with the Headlights on lights.
The billing order matters and is easy to get backwards. For every night of this run Butterfield was billed above them — Cream were the visiting attraction and the reason the residency is remembered, but on Bonnie MacLean's sheet Paul Butterfield's band held the top of the card. Cream take it only from BG-80, two nights later.
MacLean's poster is printed in red, gold, white and purple: a circle of lettering carrying the acts' names, held beneath a human face and a pair of hands — perhaps a sorceress with a crystal ball displaying the bill. It shared a double postcard with BG-80, the two Cream weeks distributed as a pair.
A date disagreement sits on this closing night and this chronicle keeps it visible: the Fillmore listings give the run as August 22 to 26, while the poster and the auction records read 8/22-27, six nights ending Sunday. The sources differ by exactly this night.
