Saturday, August 26, 1967 was the penultimate night of the BG-79 run at the Fillmore Auditorium: the Butterfield Blues Band, Cream and the Southside Sound System, with the Headlights on the light show.

There is a date discrepancy on this engagement that this chronicle preserves rather than resolving. The Fillmore Auditorium listings give the run as August 22 to 26; the poster itself and the auction records read 8/22–27, a six-night stand ending on the Sunday. The sources disagree by one night and the honest position is to say so.

What is not in question is what the residency did. Cream had made their actual American debut five months earlier, on Murray the K's package shows at the RKO 58th Street Theater in New York, where they were buried down a bill and played as little as one song — "I'm So Glad" — five times a day between other acts. The Fillmore gave them the opposite: consecutive nights, a room built for length, and an audience that had come specifically to hear a band stretch a song past where a single could go. Two weeks and two posters later they left San Francisco with the live reputation that defined them.
