The second night of Cream's first American stand, Wednesday, August 23, 1967 - Cream, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, and the Southside Sound System at the Fillmore Auditorium under Bonnie MacLean's BG-79 (per wolfgangs; setlist.fm carries an Aug 23 Cream setlist from the run). By the second night the Fillmore audience was learning what the records had not prepared them for: a British blues trio that treated a three-minute song as an invitation to twenty minutes of interlocking improvisation. This was the sound that would, within a year, make Cream the biggest band in the world - first heard, in America, in the room psychedelia built.
