On Tuesday, August 20, 1968, the third bracket of Bill Graham's marathon BG-133 poster opened at Fillmore West: the Grateful Dead, home from the road, over Kaleidoscope and the Texas guitar of Albert Collins, with the Holy See light show (bill and dates per the Bill Graham Foundation date pages and wolfgangs, which files the whole Aug 13-25 run under the single BG-133 catalog; the Dead's three nights corroborated on dead.net and setlist.fm, with soundboard tapes of all three circulating on archive.org). BG-133 was the first double-sized poster in the Fillmore West series, Rick Griffin and Alton Kelley's dense interlocking design - the Avalon's own house artists working Graham's room - and it advertised nearly two weeks of rotating headliners on one sheet: The Who, then Creedence, then the Dead, then Quicksilver. The Dead's leg was the heart of it. The August 21 night in particular has since been released officially, as a vinyl bonus with the deluxe Grateful Dead Origins book - a Dark Star, a St. Stephen > The Eleven, a Death Don't Have No Mercy, a Lovelight to close. On the 20th the room got the opening night of that leg, the band that the Fillmore and the Avalon had between them made, playing the poster that two Avalon artists had drawn for Graham's hall.
