The Family Dog listings carry an unusual detail for this run: Mad River sat in using Moby Grape's equipment. That kind of note is exactly what makes the venue lists worth more than the posters — a poster records what was sold, a listing occasionally records what happened.
Vanilla Fudge, third, were the Long Island band whose slowed-down, organ-heavy cover of "You Keep Me Hangin' On" had been a hit that year, and whose approach — take a pop song, quadruple its length, play it like a dirge — was influential well beyond their own reputation.

This is Moby Grape's Avalon stand, overlapping its BG-77 Fillmore billing on Aug 10 (unresolved two-venue conflict per Corry Arnold). MAD RIVER (antagonist-corrected): per Corry Arnold, Mad River substituted for Moby Grape at the last second on ONE night, PROBABLY Sat Aug 12 (not Aug 11), apparently because Skip Spence was incapacitated -- NO mention of 'amps'; Arnold himself is unsure. Single-source, hedged. The garbled 'sat in on Moby Grape's amps Aug 11' version is NOT asserted. Secondary.
