Eric Burdon and the Animals opened the back half of BG-132 at the Fillmore West, with Blood, Sweat & Tears and the Gypsy Wizard Band.
This was the second Animals — the original Newcastle band had broken up in 1966 and Burdon had rebuilt it in California as a psychedelic group, producing "San Franciscan Nights" and "Monterey," songs about this very scene written by an outsider who had adopted it. Blood, Sweat & Tears beneath them were between their two lineups: Al Kooper had formed the band and left, and the horn-driven version that would sell millions was just arriving.

ANTAGONIST-CHECKED. 1968-08-09=Friday; OPENING of the Eric Burdon & the Animals / Blood, Sweat & Tears / Gypsy Wizard Band bill (Aug 9-11), the back half of the SAME Lee Conklin BG-132 six-night poster whose front half opened 08-06. A first pass mis-guessed this as 'BG-134' -- WRONG: BG-134 is a DIFFERENT poster (Grateful Dead / Santana, the image that became the Santana debut LP cover). GDAO settles BG-132. Co-lead of 08-09. COAU Fillmore West listings (Hannan/Arnold), 9 August 1968: 'Eric Burdon & The Animals, Blood Sweat & Tears, Gypsy Wizard Band'. Opening night of the BG-132 back half.
