The Chambers Brothers opened at the Fillmore West with the Charlatans and Queen Lily's Soap, on the front half of BG-132.

The Chambers Brothers were four brothers from Mississippi plus a drummer from Brooklyn, playing gospel-rooted soul that had absorbed rock and psychedelia, and "Time Has Come Today" — eleven minutes of cowbell, feedback and shouting on the album version — was on the radio that summer. They were one of the very few Black rock bands with a large white ballroom audience, and they played the Fillmore constantly.

The Charlatans beneath them were, by 1968, the scene's overlooked founders — the Red Dog Saloon band, still without much of a recording career, watching everyone they had preceded pass them.
