Opening night of the Butterfield Blues Band at the Fillmore West with It's a Beautiful Day and SRC — and a poster that advertises a band who did not appear.
The Fillmore West listings carry the note plainly: the BG-185 sheet says Fleetwood Mac. They did not play. What the audience got instead was Paul Butterfield's band, It's a Beautiful Day — David LaFlamme's violin-fronted San Francisco group, then months from "White Bird" — and SRC out of Michigan.
Posters advertising acts that never took the stage recur through this chronicle often enough to be a theme rather than an anomaly: the 13th Floor Elevators on BG-25, the Grateful Dead on the Children's Camp benefit flyer, Fleetwood Mac here. The sheet is printed in advance and the week does what it does.

POSTER-VS-STAGE SPLIT (resolved at human gate 2026-07-29): BG-185 as printed advertises FLEETWOOD MAC as headliner, and Wolfgang's indexes the poster under that name. Fleetwood Mac did NOT play. chickenonaunicycle's Fillmore West list records Aug 5, 6 and 7 1969 identically as "Butterfield, It's A Beautiful Day, Src / Lights: Brotherhood Of Light" with the explicit note "Poster Say Fleetwood Mac". The bill in this row (Butterfield / It's A Beautiful Day / SRC) is who took the stage; the poster credit is a print-vs-performance discrepancy, not an error in this record. Same class as the FD-19 poster-vs-night split.
