The bill order is the story. Muddy Waters — McKinley Morganfield, fifty-four, the man who electrified the Delta blues in Chicago and whose band had been the finishing school for half of that city's musicians — headlining over Buffalo Springfield, a Los Angeles group with Stephen Stills and Neil Young in it who had "For What It's Worth" on the radio and would break up within eight months. Richie Havens opened.
Graham put Muddy Waters on top and the young hit-makers under him, which tells you exactly how the Fillmore understood itself in the summer of 1967.
