Them with the Sons of Champlin at the Fillmore Auditorium — an unpostered night, which is why it is easily missed.

Them were the Belfast band Van Morrison had fronted since 1964. "Gloria" and "Here Comes the Night" were behind them; Morrison would leave within months and make *Astral Weeks* two years later. The Sons of Champlin, beneath them, were a Marin County group with horns who would become one of the most durable Bay Area bands of the era, turning up repeatedly through these pages.

The Fillmore's 1966 calendar carried plenty of nights like this — real bills with no printed sheet. They leave almost no trace beyond the venue lists, which is the systematic gap in any chronicle built around posters.
