Thursday, July 27, 1967 was the Yardbirds' final night at the Fillmore Auditorium, closing the first half of BG-75 before the Doors took the same poster for the following three nights.

The Yardbirds by mid-1967 were on their third and last great guitarist. Eric Clapton had gone in 1965, Jeff Beck in 1966, and Jimmy Page was now playing lead; within a year the band would dissolve and he would build Led Zeppelin out of what remained of the contracts and the touring commitments. The group that played these two Fillmore nights is the one that made *Little Games* — commercially the weakest record they released and the direct ancestor of the loudest band of the following decade.

What makes BG-75 unusually instructive is that the support bill stayed while the headline changed completely: the James Cotton Blues Band and Richie Havens played all five nights, under the Yardbirds on the 26th and 27th and under the Doors on the 28th, 29th and 30th. The poster names a span and a roster; the nights inside it were two separate engagements sharing a middle and a bottom.

Bonnie MacLean's peacock sheet over all of it is widely considered one of the finest posters of the era — and, unusually for the genre, achieves that without the vibrating colour Wes Wilson had made standard.
