Robert Fried
Biography
Robert Fried (1937-1975) was a San Francisco painter and poster artist who designed for the Family Dog at the Avalon Ballroom. His best-known ballroom work is the linked triptych of FD-63, FD-67 and FD-71 (1967), three posters conceived to read together as a set. Trained as a fine artist, Fried brought a painterly, layered sensibility to the poster form; his career was cut short by his death in 1975. (Profile written for the 2026-07-06 weekly run at honest length — Fried is a comparatively lightly-documented figure and this entry is deliberately brief rather than padded.)
